Immunotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)

Immunotherapy can be a powerful treatment option for patients with lung cancer. Recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors have become an important tool for treating advanced lung cancer.

Currently, immunotherapy can be used to treat advanced NSCLC include:28

PD-1 inhibitors

They target PD-1, a protein on T-cells that normally helps keep these cells from attacking other cells in the body. By blocking PD-1, these inhibitors boost the immune response against cancer cells. This can shrink some tumors or slow their growth.

PD-L1 inhibitors

This type of inhibitor targets PD-L1, a protein related to PD-1 that is found on some tumor cells and immune cells. Blocking this protein can also help boost the immune response against cancer cells.

Your doctor will discuss with you if immunotherapy is going to benefit you and recommend the most appropriate treatment for you to take.
